Description

The proposal map has as an aim to empower women to shape their public spaces. They can use this map to pinpoint areas needing improvement, and help them share their ideas, concerns, and suggestions that prioritise safety, accessibility, and inclusivity and create a vibrant urban environment.

Why This Tool?

By mapping these elements, it offers insights into the lived experiences of different genders and identifies areas for improvement. The map aims to create more inclusive and equitable public spaces that celebrate diverse gender identities and foster a sense of belonging for all. To do this, it examines the following:

The Proposals Map is useful in situations where there is a need to identify the problematic areas of the public space and suggest improvements, including the gender perspective. It is an important tool that helps individuals, community groups, and authorities to collaborate, propose improvements, and create more caring, healthy, accessible, and well-equipped public environments that promote inclusivity and community engagement. The proposals can be addressed following these parameters:

<aside> ⭐ Caring: Proposals that take into account the needs of different age groups, adaptable spaces and furniture, proximity to local commerce and neighbourhood scale, safety for movement, travel time to other locations, and the presence of social and community interaction spaces.

<aside> ⭐ Health: Proposals which are considering comfort, air quality, perceptual elements such as smell and noise, vehicle speed, quality of routes for movement, presence of shading, water elements, treatment of heat islands and climate refuges, pavements that facilitate movement for individuals with disabilities, and the presence of green infrastructure and accessible seating areas.

<aside> ⭐ Accessibility: Proposals that promote autonomy, connections to other neighborhood locations, easy access to neighborhood services adapted to the diverse functional needs of different groups, availability of essential amenities (water access, breastfeeding spaces), information treatment with signage, safe public transportation stops, and sustainable mobility services.

<aside> ⭐ Public Facilities: Proposals that encourage interactions between different community groups, diversity, intergenerational spaces, dynamic uses that foster community participation, perception of streets in terms of their identity and nomenclature, and the presence of reference spaces for women.
